Belgian Sheperds, replacing police dogs too!?
Is there anyone else out there who owns Belgian Sheperds? I'm the proud mum of a black male, named Ter, (te-rr) and a sandy/grey female, called Tiva. (tee-va)
Does anyone else have them? We were lucky to get ours, and we live in australia- i'm looking for photos or stories of our fave. pups!
No, they're belgian sheperds, like german, but without the hip problems- they're prettier, and don't have the ugly sloping back.
Aren't they just the best dogs?! I also live in Australia and received my Belgian Shepherd Malinois for my early 17th birthday present almost four years ago ~ she is the most beautiful creature in the world... and actually has brains too! I'm sure you've noticed this with your lovely Belgians as well (and from your question) that they are incredibly intelligent, trainable, loyal and hardworking dogs who are always eager to please their human, as well as being stunning to look at! Hence their popularity as police dogs... that being said, I am constantly surprised at how rare they are as pets; they seem the perfect dog to me 
I have trained my girl myself, and often have comments about how well-behaved she is; I can't take any of the credit!! It is so enjoyable training her, especially watching her problem solve trying to earn more treats! Also, my mum bought a Belgian Groenendael puppy a few months ago, who is nothing short of adorable... her name, Saran, means joy ~ So now we are honoured to have two beautiful Belgians in our family 
Oh, and I definitely agree that they are prettier than German Shepherds; I have never seen a dog move as smoothly and with such grace and dignity as do Belgians!
In the way of stories... I have too many to share to write them all here ~ but I would love to hear more about your pups! Just to give you some idea of how much of a blessing my girl is; the day my parents got her for me was the day I was witness to a violent assault (my parents didn't know)... I called her Shantih, and through our first few months together she helped me and my family through some very tough times as my uncle died of cancer. More recently I have been struggling with some health issues of my own, but through everything, Shantih has been exactly what her name means: the peace that passes all understanding
I'd love to see pics of and hear more about Ter and Tiva... sorry for such a long reply ~ it's hard to stop talking about the greatest dogs ever!!
